Photofractional Laser Treatment

Photofractional Laser Treatment

Photofractional laser treatment is an advanced treatment option for common skin concerns associated with aging and skin damage. One of the main appeals of photofractional laser treatment is that it’s completed quickly and requires little to no downtime. At Bay Dermatology in Tampa, we’re happy to offer photofractional laser treatment as a lasting skin solution.

What is Photofractional Laser Treatment?

Photofractional laser treatment is a type of light therapy that uses a fractional laser in combination with IPL light. The fractional laser reaches the dermis, which is the skin’s deepest layer, and initiates the skin’s natural healing process. IPL, or intense pulsed light, gives off broad spectrum light rather than just one wavelength. This reaches the skin at varying depths to treat pigmentation and/or blood vessels.

Fractionated light only impacts a portion (or fraction, as the name suggests) of skin in treatment. In photofractional laser treatment, only the damaged skin will be targeted with the laser, leaving the surrounding, healthy skin unaffected by heat.

Similarly, the range of wavelengths given off by IPL reduces the risk for heat damage by reducing pinpointed heat intensity.

How Does Treatment Work?

Photofractional laser treatment works by heating layers of the skin to stimulate its healing process. Fractional light reaches the dermis, where collagen production occurs. The fractional laser can therefore help treat a range of skin concerns because it’s designed to initiate collagen production. The amount of collagen naturally produced by the skin can decrease with age, often leading to uneven skin tone or texture, wrinkles, fine lines, etc. Fractional light will cause the skin to create more collagen to improve tone and texture.

IPL similarly uses heat to break down skin tissue, prompting collagen production. By reaching multiple layers of the skin, IPL treatment can reduce redness, pigmentation, blood vessels, freckles, birthmarks, scarring, sun damage, and rosacea.

Treatment can be used for:

  • Stretch marks
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Scarring
  • Blood vessels
  • Sun damage

What Are The Benefits of Photofractional Laser Treatment?

  • It can be completed in a single visit to the dermatologist’s office
  • It combines fractionated light and IPL to improve skin’s texture and tone at the same time.
  • It’s non-invasive and non-surgical.
  • Minimal time for recovery is required after treatment.
  • The risk of heat damage to the skin is minimal.
  • The results are lasting, natural, and subtle.
