Botox For Beginners

February 7, 2021

This treatment works on forehead furrow lines, crow’s feet (around your eyes) and frown lines (between your eyes). These lines often create an unwanted serious, unhappy expression in an otherwise youthful feeling person.

WHAT IS BOTOX ANYWAY?

Botox is an injectable neuromodulator that contains a Botulinum toxin type A, that temporarily inhibits the nerve signals to the muscles where it’s injected. Neuromodulators address wrinkles caused by repeated movement in the muscles, such as smiling, frowning, pursing your lips, squinting or sometimes chewing. Preventing muscle movement can relax wrinkles and smooths them over time.

WHICH OTHER AREAS ARE USED FOR BOTOX

Botox can also be used for other things such as a gummy smile or to soften a square jaw.  Many patients can benefit from it by injecting it into areas that sweats easily, such as armpits, scalp and even the palms of your hands. It is also FDA approved to treat migraines and also TMJ, which is from clenching your teeth.

WHEN WILL YOU SEE RESULTS

It will usually take about seven days to see results from Botox. Results can last 3 to 4 months. There will certainly be patients in which it lasts longer.  Botox treatments may take several sessions to reach your desired results, depending on the depth and location of the wrinkles. Remember, it took several years to form those wrinkles!
